Trebon's Head-on Collision

Contender crashed out by riders out of contention. This was the scenario several times at this year's US National Cyclocross Championship.

Watch the YouTube video of Ryan Trebon, the defending US champ, meet an unlucky end to his race.

Dan,
I was trying to follow your racing from the official racing website. They had a lot of crash pics and stories. Were you entered in the Masters 50-54 event? I never did see your name on the entry list. It seemed like way too many racers for normal conditions let alone the ice and snow you had to deal with.

I raced in the 55-59 age group. "Racing age" is a little different in cyclocross because the season overlaps into the next calendar year. I will be 55 in 2008 so that is my racing age for the 2007/2008 cyclocross season.

Yes, there were way too many racers for this type of event. Now that the sport has grown to this level in the US it is time to implement a championship qualifying system.
