Change? I doubt it

Wrong religion, wrong gender, wrong ethnicity, wrong age. It usually comes down to who is most like what has been status quo. Minorities are almost never elected, except in the case of gender where women are in the majority.

Several months ago as I watched a Georgia FFA convention elect their state officers it was easy to predict the outcome. The choices for president were a short but dynamic and energetic female, a soft-spoken and hardworking Hispanic male, a well-educated and articulate Indo-American, and finally a large cowboy-type guy who sang a Johnny Cash song earlier in the convention and featured several bursts of "Go Dawgs!" in his speech. Who won? .... Duh!

“As democracy is perfected, the office of president represents, more and more closely, the inner soul of the people. On some great and glorious day the plain folks of the land will reach their heart’s desire at last and the White House will be adorned by a downright moron.” - H.L. Mencken (1880-1956)
