We only lived here about 9 months or so and our house was about 300 feet away from the Bowie Volunteer Fire Department and Rescue Squad, Station #3 in Maryland. Dad, Doug and myself were volunteers. Some of the fire and rescue runs I participated in are whole stories in themselves.
The high school we went to was in Upper Marlboro. Then called Frederick Sasscer High School and was closed in the late '70s.
I recall that the art teacher didn't like me much. In hindsight I realize it was because she was young, insecure and self-conscious. Shoot, I was a teenage boy and couldn't help looking at her big boobs.
I played on the JV basketball team, didn't wear my glasses and couldn't hit the broadside of a barn. However in one very exciting and hard-fought game all our players had fouled out and at the last minute the coach had to put me in. In the final seconds of the game the ball fell into my hands I was standing right under the basket and scored the winning point. The crowd went wild, the cheerleaders kissed me and the coach shook his head and said, "Well he finally got one in."
Posted by dancoy at November 25, 2008 12:00 PMThat's High School Musical, Senior Year! Long haired geek gets to play at the last minute and wins the game! I saw it with my own eyes.
Posted by: Umma at November 25, 2008 02:41 PMNever saw High School Musical but did see Oklahoma once.
I didn't have very long hair at that time, but would have if I had my way.
I must have been a geek because my closest friend was a poet and his goal in life was to read and own every book ever written.
