My ancient desktop still functions, slowly and only partially, but a new machine is long overdue. Santa brought the wife a fast and sleek new machine this year so she should be OK for a while.
Through the years I have purchased several laptop computers for daughters going to college but I have never owned one personally. I can't rationalize or afford a high-end gaming or business machine so I found a good deal on a mid-level box. Pulled the trigger and will probably get it in a week or two.

Posted by: Marshall Millard at December 29, 2008 12:42 PMI bought a Dell laptop from my work a year or so ago. Even though it's nearly 5yrs old it has been a really nice machine. New it was in the $1.5K range and I got it in a "silent auction" format for $200. Hooray for work!
Posted by: TC at December 29, 2008 08:14 PMYay! Now you have a great computer to download all the pictures/movies of your grandbaby in 2009 :o) Did you get the docking station too? Those things are a life saver.
Posted by: Ruthie at December 30, 2008 11:16 AMI've had Sony & Toshiba's for personal use. After working on a Dell at the office for the past 3+ years - I fianlly upgraded and bought one for myself - and much prefer it to the Sony/Toshiba I've used in the past. Santa brought my children their first ever laptops (Dell) this season too. Hope you like it.
