Rode With Some Big Guns
Met some riders in Athens this afternoon for a 100k+ road ride featuring several 10-15k sections of dirt roads. The group consisted of the following riders;
John Murphy, the current USPRO Criterium Champion.
Frank Trevieso, won 7 Pro1/2 races this year most recently the US 10K Classic.
Eric Murphy, won 10 Pro1/2 races this year.
Jered Gruber, journalist for Pez and Pro1/2 racer.
Parker Smith, a 21-year old who went from Cat 4 to Pro1/2 in one season.
I took my place at the back of the pack for the most part but did a couple tempo pulls on the front and hung right with the big men when they cranked up the pace on the dirt roads. My HRM data indicated I spent about 20 minutes over my threshold and that we averaged almost 23 mph on the dirt road sections!
