30 pounds = 13.6 kilograms

For those who are keeping count, Miles weighed in at 30 pounds today. According to the Mellow Miles blog that would be 3.5 pound increase in two months.

WeCanSolveIt.org

I don't know if I would call the problem "Global Warming" or "Climate Crisis", but I do know that if USA borrows money from China to buy oil from the Middle East, only to burn it up, there is a serious problem going on here.

The oil era is over. We need energy independence and since a change is inevitable, it might as well be something clean and renewable also. Here's one idea. wecansolveit.org

Mighty Mo

I played a trio gig at the Atlanta History Center tonight. It was an event celebrating the launch of the "Fox Theatre Institute", a new initiative to help other historic theaters in Georgia with restoration, programming, fund-raising and community development.

These folks were really appreciative and complimented the band, and that's cool but what really got me stoked was Joe Patten, really liked our trio and talked with us for quite a while after we finished.

Joe Patten is the man who, starting in 1963, began restoring the HUGE custom built 1929 theater organ which resides in the Fox Theater. It is the second-largest theater organ in the country. The Mighty Mo is indisputably the crowning glory of the M. P. Möller Organ Company and Joe Patten is the resident expert... literally, Joe lives in the Fox Theater and has for 28 years now!

Next time we're playing an event at the Fox Joe said to come knock on his door and check out his new sound system and recording equipment. He's preparing to produce a new recording of jazz music with "Mighty Mo" and Larry Embury, the current organist in residence. Gotta check it out!

Electric and Alternative Fuel Cars

I despise the thought that every time I push on the gas pedal I might indirectly be funding a Middle East terrorist organization. Is driving a gas guzzling American car unpatriotic these days? I say YES. In fact I regret that I recently bought a car that runs only on gasoline, in spite of it getting a relatively efficient 40 MPG.

Alternative Fuel for Cars

* Alcohols - ethanol and methanol.
* Compressed natural gas (CNG) - natural gas under high pressure.
* Electricity - stored in batteries.
* Fuel Cell Vehicles - zero-emission vehicles of the future?
* Hybrid Vehicles - using a couple of different energy sources or motors.
* Hydrogen - a very special type of gas.
* Liquefied natural gas (LNG) - natural gas that is very, very cold.
* Liquefied petroleum gas (LPG) - hydrocarbon gases under low pressure.
* Liquids made from coal - gasoline and diesel fuel that doesn't come from petroleum.
* Biodiesel - a lot like diesel fuel, but made from plant oil or animal fat.
