It was a 10:30 AM start in the fog, mist and light rain. The temperature was about 50 degrees but the wind chill and humidity made it feel like low 40's. I met Doug and we headed East into the wind. About an hour into the ride I noticed my computer was not receiving data from the wheel, so I stopped for a sec to see if I could fix it, but no luck, it's probably a dead battery in the transmitter.
There is 10-15 minute surge in my heartrate while I chased hard to bridge back up to Doug after stopping to put on my rain cape. His "breakaway visualization" or "attack" or whatever it was, cost him too much energy because when I got back up to him he dropped to his smallest gear and couldn't even ride tempo anymore. I continued on solo.
A Total of about 58 miles three hours and 16 minutes later I rolled back into my driveway wet and cold but feeling alright.
I've played here dozens of times over the past few years, huge wedding receptions by the lake, banquets on the lawn, corporate functions in the ballrooms, award presentations, holiday dinners and more. This Ritz-Carlton is probably the most elegent luxury resort in the Southeast.

Tonight's job at the Ritz-Carlton Lodge is for the duo performing for an awards ceremony / motivational event. What is different is this time the client has provided 2 rooms for the musicians. Mack lives less than 45 minutes away and has to be up early in the morning so he's not interested. My commute takes at least 2 hours each way, so spending the afternoon and night there is tempting. I have asked several people if they wanted to join me in, but no takers. I don't know if I'll stay or not.
John Sinibaldi, known as "The Legend," died in his sleep at age 92 on Jan. 10. His national-level cycling career spanned 77 years, including 18 U.S. championships and the 1932 and '36 Olympics. He won his first major race in 1928 and his last in 2005, a USA Cycling masters road championship. For much of his life, Sinibaldi also promoted cycling as a sport for young athletes. He was a 1997 inductee of the U.S. Bicycling Hall of Fame. His passing came after a short bout with lung cancer. Funeral services were Saturday in St. Petersburg, Florida.

In 1997-98 I had the very good fortune to know this man, talk and ride bikes with him.
For a while there I was beginning to think he was immortal. This was not a death, it was a homecoming.
It has finally stopped raining and now it's time to go for a bike ride. First check the conditions outside.
Choose the appropriate clothing for conditions, remembering the HRM and chamois creme.
Always bring drinks, food, cellphone, glasses and ID.
Pump up the tires, grab your helmet, put your bottles on the bike and food in your jersey pockets, make sure you have spares in the saddle bag, start the HRM/computer and RIDE.
Since it was a wet and somewhat rainy ride, the bike will require some cleaning and lubing before putting away.
Another great ride, now clean up and begin recovery.
Write down the workout in the ride log and download the Heart Rate Monitor data to the computer.
Prepare to do it again tomorrow...
