From Bethlehem to Bogart and back. We stopped at Bogart City Hall for a pit stop... only in rural Georgia y'all!
Check out some photos in the gallery.
Rachel demonstrates how a former state champ jettisons the sinuses. Notice the old tree-house in the background.
For those who are wondering what's up these days, here's some cycling irons in the fire...
Helping put on a multi-day, multi-venue bicycle racing event.

Keeping an eye on upcoming 'cross season... and I don't just mean counting down the days.

Still looking to sell some bikes in the garage and score a new MTB.
Music biz stuff continues with talk of recording a Christmas CD with Mack and Joe. We have some hip arrangements developed over the years and a little cash to invest. I just checked to see which of the Christmas songs that we play are in the public domain... i.e. no licensing or royalties required.
Angels We Have Heard on High
God Rest Ye, Merry Gentlemen
Hark, the Herald Angels Sing
Jingle Bells
O Christmas Tree
Silent Night
We Three King
We Wish You a Merry Christmas
What Child is This?
There is at least a dozen more Christmas songs we have clever original arrangements of that I'll have to calculate the Mechanical License Royalty Rates to see if it's feasible to put them on the CD.
I have no idea what the movie is about but maybe we'll go see it for Father's Day.
Back in the day (1968-1969), this was the only comic book I collected, all eighteen issues.
The Marvel Comics superhero was created by writer Stan Lee and artist/co-plotter Jack Kirby. Thematically, the stories dealt with the Surfer's exile on Earth and the inhumanity of man as observed by this noble yet fallen hero. The Silver Surfer comic book series became known as one of Lee's most thoughtful and introspective works.
It's interesting to me that the different cycling disciplines produce such a wide disparity in a cyclist's results. For example when a dominating semi-pro mountain biker is but a fair to middling road racer, or when a champion road racer rides on the trails like a middle of the pack sport rider.
Today TC and I rode with Gerard, who was born and raised in the Netherlands and can absolutely clean our clocks in any cyclocross race, but today he was off the back in a road ride which included some dirt/gravel roads. Granted we weren't competing and TC and I have a home-court advantage, but it just makes one think about how the bicycle can amplify an athlete's specific strengths and weaknesses.
Rachel and I joined the Friday morning ride with Bob and Deb at Bethlehem. Put a few photos in the photo gallery.
The trio playing at the home of Bobby Jones, the historic East Lake Golf Club. Last time we played here Tiger Wood's wife stood near the band for a while and kinda made it hard for the guys to concentrate.
Union City, GA - About 40 riders lined up for the 58-mile long Masters 45+ road race championships. As it turns out we spent the entire morning chasing the rainbow stripes. David Grice is a UCI Masters WORLD Champion and showed why he wears those stripes today by simply riding everyone off his wheel. I found myself in a chase group of about 10 riders and we eventually caught Grice, a couple of times, but then he would just ride away from us again and he ultimately soloed to the victory. Doug Pomeranz and Eric May hung with Grice for a while toward the end and then they battled each other for the jersey (only GA residents are eligible for state champion awards, everyone is eligible for the purse however). About 15 seconds behind I was in a chase group and took third in our sprint for the line (23.4 mph avg total, including the neutral 5 miles out to the parkway). The peloton arrived about 2.5 minutes later and Andrea Castro won that sprint. For my GTC/YKK teammates, Gerard finished in the pack and Marshall dropped out.
Medals are awarded to the 5-year age groups, so I got 2nd in the 50-54 gang.
1. David Grice 47 NC
2. Doug Pomeranz 46 GA (Gold and Jersey)
3. Eric May 45 GA (Silver)
4. Greg Turner 51 GA (Gold)
5. Vic Rodgers 58 TN
6. Dan Coy 54 GA (Silver)
7. Ted Manley 58 GA (Gold)
...
For me this result was surprisingly good because I went with absolutely no special preparation and no expectations for anything other than a good hard workout with a very strong field of riders.
Among my collection of medals and awards, usually the silver and bronze medals represent the most memorable and toughest competitions of my life - this day was one of those.
After my bike ride yesterday my lungs and throat were feeling irritated. It's that smoke in the air folks, it's not good. The haze is from the huge 800-thousand acre forest and brush fire on the Georgia/Florida border.
A satellite shot posted today by the local Air Pollution Control Bureau shows that smoky haze has moved all the way up into Canada. ..."it's in the unhealthy range for all groups..not just people with pre-existing conditions with heart and lung functions..but the general population as well..everybody should avoid strenuous outdoor activities."
If you have Google Earth, then you can view satellite images of the fires and smoke and even get smoke forecasts.
