It's dinner time and the K9 crew knows it.
OK, who knocked over the flower pot?
After more than a week of feeling under the weather, putting in an extra long work-week and off the bike for almost the entire time, I finally made it out to participate in the last stage of the Gwinnett Bike Fest. As I had anticipated my performance was mediocre, but it feels great to be back in the saddle and now it's time to start looking toward the cyclocross season (October 21 - December 15, 2007).

Gwinnett Center Criterium Results
About 300 riders raced in the Gwinnett Civic Center parking lot tonight, criterium style. Many of the local cycling stars, including Chris and Tina Pic, participated.
Nearly 300 riders on the first stage! This weekend's events will be even bigger. I am getting tons of emails from Cat 4/5 riders begging to get in the event, but we exceeded the field limit during preregistration.
Road Atlanta Circuit Race Results
Looking down that result list I see pros, champions, former champions and top-amateurs from all over the Eastern US. This event is already a success.
At this rate I calculate a gross income of about $40k for this event. After all the expenses, permits, insurance and so on... there should be a very nice little check for the Foster Children's Foundation. Congratulations to everyone who has worked on this project and many thanks!

Bike Fest attracts an impressive pack
You know that rule of publicity: they can say whatever they want about me, so long as they spell my name right. Well, they almost got it right.
This weekend the Atlanta Journal-Constitution and ajc.com published a couple articles mentioning my involvement in the upcoming Gwinnett Bike Fest. They also published one of my photos from the GTC Championships ride.

Sitting at the kitchen table doodling can be therapeutic sometimes.
Gilad Janklowicz is today's version of Jack La Lanne. For about 15 years my day started with coffee and bouncing around the room with Gilad but then my cable package changed and I didn't get fitTV anymore. I didn't realize I would miss the AM aerobics that much. Fortunately we now have that channel again.
While on my ride Tuesday I saw Wendy riding the other way, probably heading home from working at Golds gym. That might have been the last time of waving at each other from bikes because she has moved to Texas. It's good to know there are women who are so strong, motivated, independent and completely dedicated to their husband and children. It's been a privilege to coach her and have her as a teammate.
Last year she was introduced to the Gaps and ruled, check out the video.
Tracy Saine scores a podium spot at the 2007 Masters National Championship in Seven Springs, PA. The course was a beast and the competition was fierce in the Mens 35-39 road race. This was a defining moment for our GTC/YKK team this season.

I woke up yesterday suffering with headache, fever, elevated pulse, nausea, body pain and could barely get out of bed. This morning I'm feeling much better but still feel like a train ran over me!
Executive privilege? Is that the same thing as dictatorship?
Exempting himself from reasonable restrictions and safeguards on a "trust me" basis simply says that he considers himself to be above the law and his actions to be beyond review.
Giving Scooter Libby his get-out-of-jail-free card and telling ex-top-aides not to testify in an ongoing congressional investigation into the forced resignations of at least eight federal prosecutors.
Authorized the National Security Agency's warrantless wiretapping on domestic phone calls and e-mails.
When it comes to the war in Iraq, the American people have spoken, the House and Senate have spoken, and the president is not listening.
"Executive privilege" isn't that what Nixon said too?
Saturday afternoon 07/07/07 was the 45-mile Georgia Games cycling road race held on Fulton Ind Pkwy. There were maybe about 40 riders in a combined field of Masters 35+/45+. The finish was at the top of a fairly long uphill and I came in third place. It was a pretty tough competition and I felt good about my ride other than I started my sprint too late and could have finished at least one place better. My computer data indicated a 24.3 avg speed.
45+ podium - Steve Garrett (Velo Voodoo), Greg Masterson (MACC) and Dan Coy (GTC/YKK)
Several weeks ago, on Saturday June 16, 2007, I was riding my old mountain bike around the Fort Yargo trails and came upon an Adventure Race. I have never seen one of these before and it looked kinda fun. This race consisted of three-person teams and included mountain biking, paddling, trail running, orienteering, crawling through a mud pit and more. siegeyargo.trailblazerar.com
As I clicked through the event photos this evening I discovered a couple photos of me. I guess the photographer thought I was racing too.
It looked like rain and the roads were mostly wet but we avoided the downpour and cruised around the Blackjack Loop.

My legs were feeling pretty tired after battling for the bronze at the Georgia Games Masters Road Race yesterday, but I apparently still had enough testosterone pumping through my veins to make things uncomfortable for my riding partners. Appreciate the tolerance my friends.
94th Tour de France. No, he's not a contender for the overall, but he sure showed everyone today why he wears the rainbow stripes of the World Time Trial Champion.

Have you ever heard of a Mall of Georgia roll, Exit 115 roll, Buford Drive roll, or Verizon roll? Sushi Niko Niko located across from the Mall of Georgia (sort of between Bruster's and Starbucks), has fun with sushi. Rachel and I have enjoyed eating there a couple times recently.
The Buford Drive roll and cucumber wrap salad (top).
Dan and Bev, Ruth and Nick, Rachel and Augie all packed up a bunch of good eats and treats and had a picnic in the gazebo at Bramlett Elementary School. The rural school in Barrow county is also the sight of the "Secret Training Location" where we gather on Sunday mornings in September and October to practice cyclocross racing.
The weather was pleasant, we played games, tossed Frisbees, attempted to launch kites (but not enough wind) and of course ate too much food. It was a memorable get-together.
Bill Wilson played the piano at Violette tonight with me and his new iPhone drew an even bigger crowd. John Snellings and Mark Karrell sat-in also and it turned into a jam session by the end of the night.
The iPhone surfs the internet with ease and doesn't even need a Wi-Fi connection. It's kind of humorous to think back to when Bill and I used to bring Commodore SX-64's and 300 baud modems to the gigs back in the early 80's and plug into the phone lines to get online. That sound of a 300 baud modem dialing into a BBS and connecting, followed by that familiar BBS login prompt was golden. I used to have a dedicated phone line at home and was the SysOp for "Real Time" BBS. the World-Wide Web didn't come along until 1992, by then all the Bulletin Board Services were disappearing.
The Poster List: I like these and think that they would make good t-shirts too.
Here's a collection of vintage bicycle posters I gathered up from various places around the internet.
Here's a couple of cool logos that have come to represent Italian style. I'll take one of each, thank you very much.
