The box of shirts showed up after I had left for work last evening. Started my day with green Tee and coffee. This is OK, but not the colors I had envisioned. In the mock-up picture the shirt and printing were a darker shade of green.

The crooked tie gang. As you can see by this picture we are very serious about our jobs and have absolutely no fun doing it.
I have been performing for special events at the Buckhead Club for 20 years or more. In fact this is where Mack and I first met about ten years ago. He was playing upstairs in the lounge with Sam Skelton and Duane Norman and I was downstairs playing with "Swing Factory". The two of us played there again as a duo last year but since then the club has relocated to the new Sovereign building directly across Peachtree Street.
The Sovereign Building is a shiny new curvy-looking landmark on the Atlanta skyline. Tonight, the trio, with Mack and Keith Runfola will pioneer the loading docks, service elevators and back hallways up to the 26th floor where we will perform in the lounge first and the dining room later.
Guy Luck (pronounced GEE LUKE) owned and built Violette Restaurant in Atlanta, he was also my friend and employer. Guy was born and raised in France and we often talked about pro bicycle racing in Europe, he knew more about it than me because his father was a big fan of the sport and he grew up around it.
In August 2003 while I was away at the USA Cycling Masters National Championships in Louisville, Guy was kidnapped and murdered. I read about it in the news, was shocked and came home to his funeral. Violette was closed and I was suddenly unemployed. The restaurant was reopened several weeks later by a partial owner and Guy's romantic partner, Stephanie Belcher.
Three young men were caught and two confessed to the kidnapping and murder, the third guy was the instigator and trigger man but denies it.

Lo-fi Mike at Lo-fi Customs will have the shirts to me by the end of this week. This guy has done several batches of Dans Macabre shirts for me in the past and I am always happy with what I get.
We chose to do the green ones on this first run with plans to do some variations later with different colored shirts and various logo locations - get folks to collect them all.
At more than $10 a pop for the multi-color logo printed on an organic t-shirt, we'll see how much it is for a 1-color print on a regular (cheap) t-shirt.
Here's a quick idea for a t-shirt design based on the "borrowing" of a legendary branding. Something like these colors for printing on a natural organic t-shirt that would be aimed at the eco-minded cyclist and t-shirt collector.
I prefer to participate in sports rather than watch them but I might make an exception here.
Sunday cyclocross practices at the STL (Secret Training Location) had to be moved this season because the old place had been closed off. The new location offers more varied and challenging terrain, public bathrooms, occasional spectators and we seem to be welcome there.
Only 2 or 3 practices left...
10/12
10/19 (or Savannah race)

Already have all the permits, contracts, insurances, reservations and other paper work. Working on rounding up awards, registration and course workers. Haven't actually gone out there yet to define the course but will probably be similar to previous editions.

I changed my mind at the last second and did the 45+ race instead of the A's but it was not easy having barely 4 hours of sleep between working and racing.
As a result of some early crashes I found myself solo leading the 45+ race until about 2 laps to go when Torre (GTC) and Brad Harper (Cycleworks) bridged the gap to me. I decided to sit in and wait for the sprint finish which was on the road. As our leading trio approached the end of the final lap Torre and Brad got around a lapped rider but I was delayed and had to pass in a risky spot before it was too late, only to take my first tumble for the day. No real harm done, but had to get up and settle for a third place finish. Torre got second and Brad won the sprint.

The 2008 Blue CXc, which was won at last year's Georgia Cross Series, will make it's debut tomorrow at the first race of this season.
Due to my work schedule this season I will not be participating in the early morning racing for the age groups (i.e. "grandpa group"). Instead I will race in the afternoon and most likely get my doors blown off in the Men's A race (i.e. Pro/1/2).
The first race of the series will be located at the site of the first gold Rush in the USA and where the locals are referred to as "nuggets", Dahlonega, Georgia
“If you can see it in your mind you can have it in your hand.” This is one of the understandings that is at the foundation of the concept of goal-setting. Whatever it is upon which we focus and think about, we’re likely to attract more of into our lives.
“Success is nothing more than a few simple disciplines, practiced every day, while failure is simply a few errors in judgment, repeated every day. It is the cumulative weight of our disciplines and our judgments that leads us to either fortune or failure.”
There is a chill in the morning air and even the Southern riders have to put on the wind vest, arm and knee warmers again.
