Barely to the end of my street and headed out for a gentle jog accompanied by three dogs on leashes. A car parked on the side of the street forces us out into the road as we go around it. A Fed-Ex truck comes from behind and speeds by us. One of the dogs is skittish, darts between my legs and under my feet. I go down hard on the hip which I have been trying to rehabilitate. Cussing out loud I get up in serious pain and begin limping back home. The truck disappeared around the corner and somebody got in the parked car and drove off.
Well, it started out as a fine day...
It was a cold start to the day with temps in the low to mid 40's but toward the end of a 53-mile solo bike ride the sun was shining and temps approaching 60. Recharged with salad, spaghetti and a brief nap then took the canine crew for a brisk walk up and down Waldrop Rd.
After watching "Race Across the Sky" last night I had to get some dirt in my tire treads today. Took nephew Matt over to ride at Harbins Park. This was Matt's first look at the Harbins Park mountain bike trails.
Last night I was messing around with the camera phone's picture editing functions and stumbled upon this combination of edits and filters, probably should name the macro something like "1940's desperate convict".
Also experimented with the feature that lets me drag and drop files directly from the phone to my laptop and/or to the web, in this case my Flikr account.
Suddenly it's that time of year again for kneekers and wool socks. Rode in the mist, fog and cold rain today, notice the little blinky light on the seat post.
The dogs (all four of them) and I went for a walk in the rain this afternoon. We don't mind the rain and enjoy walking together. I imagine dogs and people have been walking together for many thousands of years.
Tried to run/jog but that was a no-go. The damaged left hip joint and/or ligaments from two weeks ago is not so bad on the bike but running is still out.
Hadn't seen my little buddy, Vincent, in a few weeks but the whole family stopped by briefly this morning - including Nick's Mom and both dogs. there is a little home renovation project going on at their place so we now have a fourth dog here for a few days.
It was a nice day for a solo, easy-to-moderate 48 mile ride. Basically it's the regular Sunday "Dans Macabre" route, but with the old Tanners Bridge option. Haven't been across this aging bridge in quite a while, it spans the Apalachee River. A few years ago I lobbied for the Walton County DOT to resurrect the retired bridge for pedestrian and cycling traffic, but no-go.
Here's the actual route map.
On a side note, I like the camera on my new phone, the Samsung Solstice.
The view from one end of the bridge
The view from the other end of the bridge. Not exactly confidence instilling remnants of wood there.
At the Georgia Bicycle Racing Association meeting last weekend, immediately following the elections, we started selecting races for the 2010 calendar. A new website is in the works, this morning I secured the domain name and created a GABRA emblem. Calendar, forum and all relevant GA racing info should be online by the end of this week.
Played for Matt and Melissa's wedding on Saturday September 26 and they had a good photographer. It's interesting having to update the old promo pack every so often with a current photo. It's a bit like publishing and documenting one's age progression.
Almost 40 years of professional guitar playing behind me now and it looks like I might reach my teenage goal -- to make a living playing my guitar. It hasn't all been parties, banquets, nightclubs, studios and concerts... but mostly it has!
A couple of photos here.
President of the Georgia Bicycle Racing Association -- not sure what to make of that at this time.
This is a unique nature trail route that feels remote most of the way but skirts a big shopping mall and goes underneath several busy roads. I have ridden this loop on my cyclocross bike many times and walk/run it a few times too. This makes a good trail ride in the mornings because it has a ride/drive-thru Starbucks along the route.
Limited parking off of Buford Dr/GA-20 and I-85 ramp. Ivy Creek Greenway (mostly pea gravel and some pavement), Gravel Springs road (concrete sidewalk or asphalt road), Environmental Heritage Park (dirt trail). Wooden bridge goes back to Ivy Creek Greenway. Workout type: Cyclocross bike, Mountain bike, Walk or Run.
