Mack McKibben & Dan Coy
Mack McKibben
With his roots deep in gospel, Mack would sit hours at a time
in a cotton field that separated his house from a black church and
listen to the piano and Hammond organ that was played in their services.
Inspired by players like Jimmy Smith, Billy Preston, Steve Winwood, &
Booker T., the following years carved out a R&B style of playing as he
worked with various bands through his school days. From R&B to southern
boogie, he worked briefly with such artists as: Barry Bailey, Paul
Goddard(Atlanta Rhythm Section), Percy Sledge, Dennis Yost, the Platters, &
the Drifters. Improvising tunes became so appealing in expressing what
he felt through his music.
Now one of his greatest fulfillments is working with the kids at a mission which he pastors. 'It brings such joy to me just to see their faces light up with a song they love to hear or sing.'
That's my hope with this project. If one or more of these tunes brings a smile to your face, or a tap of the foot, and even lifts your spirit somehow, then Mission Accomplished!
