It's another return engagement for Dan & Mack. On September 16, 2007 we'll be featured at the Jazz Society Sunday dinner/concert at Doyle's Cedar Hill Restaurant in Murphy, NC
The World Music & Jazz Society hosts a number of great event each year and it's always an honor to be invited to perform for this enthusiastic group of folks.

Sundays at the STL (Secret Training Location) have started today and will continue until the first cyclocross race of the Georgia Cross Series which is mid-October.

Picked up an old sketch book from 1994-95 and was swamped with a flood of memories. On the first page is a drawing from October 1994 done in a field not far from our home in Doraville. Ruth, Rachel and our dog, Tootsie, came along that day. We had our pencils and a camera too (see photo below).
Does anyone remember when folks had a journal and would write and sketch in it?...this was before blogs and digital cameras. Yep, I think the old journal, sketch pad or scrapbook might be better than the web log in some ways.
Our little field trip must have been a school holiday because during October 1994 I was working every Thursday through Sunday with various bands including Nancee Kahlor, Kodac Harrison, Liz Hendley, Sal Padilla and my band which consisted of either Octavia Jones or Rita Graham - vocals, Sean O'Rourke or Eric Johnson - drums and Allen Feingold or Bill Wilson - keyboards.
I snapped this shot as the unsuspecting fly had barely a fraction of a second before Django snatched it right out of the air and ate it.
In search of more expression and less time, a different pencil might have some answers.
This morning Bev took a photo of a visitor in her marigolds. At first she thought it was a snake. Click on the image to see the full view.
I liked this article and it reminded me of when I was raising daughters.
PRETTY STRONG Feeling comfortable in our skin isn't always easy. Running helps

This was the last Sunday Macabre ride probably for this year, or at least until cyclocross season is over for me. Clay came back with a new bike, he is strong but new to group cycling and has a learning curve to deal with, but you have to admire his spirit and willingness to take his licks and learn. Jim has the undisputed world record for most flat tires in a two-week period. He can fix them pretty fast but we're going to have to buy him a case of CO2 cartridges and save that hand pump for fending off dogs or something else. Marshall missed the start but kept his head down and sure enough caught up to the peloton which was stopped for Jim's second flat. Theron showed his improving form with many consistant strong efforts at the front meanwhile Jeff stays focused on his patented Lawrence Road and Stock Gap Road attacks.
Numbers are probably inaccurate because of all the stopping and starting...
54 mi @ 2:35 = 20.9 avg

Join Dan & Mack Saturday, August 25th from noon until 2:30pm for a free jazz concert at the 2007 Hiawassee Festival of Arts. OK, it's not actually "free jazz", the cost is free not the jazz.
Here's a photo found on the Chamblee High School reunion website. I don't recall ever seeing this photo but I must have been 17 years old at the time.

Cloudy skies, cooler temps and favorable winds add a fast group of riders working together like a well-oiled machine and we've got an excellent training ride.
For the number oriented folks...
54 mi @ 2:32 = 21.3 avg
average heart rate = 132 bpm
(L-R) Eggy, Grant, Bob, Marshall, Jim, Jeff and Dan
This 29-mile route that I have cycled on for several years has a few intriguing sights and today I took the camera along. Here's a few of my favorite images from the Old T. Mill bike route. The old barns, windmill and vehicles have interesting lines and textures and my favorite wild flower is blooming today.
Kirby Newman, former pro racer in town for the weekend, displayed some good form and shared a few tricks from the cycling grimoire.

Somehow how I have found myself in yet another benevolent situation, starting a website for the newly formed Atlanta Bebop Society. Jay is and old friend and band mate from the 80's Atlanta band, "Blessed Relief". He started this thing as a spoof on the local jazz mailing list when he announced this fictitious organization and was suddenly swamped with e-mails from people wanting to join! Who the heck knew? Anyway, he's going to run with it to see what happens.
